There’s some good news for all you Bollywood fans who love going to the movies in cinema halls. After a big break of 358 days, the theatres are all set to reopen this March with Roohi Afzana starring Janhavi Kapoor and the super talented Rajkumar Rao. Coincidentally, the last film to release in a theatre before the pandemic was Dinesh Vijan’s Angrezi Medium with the lovely Irrfan Khan on March 12, and the first “major” Hindi film to hit the big screen is again a Dinesh Vijan production, Roohi Afzana.
A trade source shared, “It’s a horror-comedy on the lines of Stree and the makers are extremely confident that the film will bring back the audience to the cinema halls. The Studio Partner, Jio, along with Dinesh have closed the terms and condition of the theatrical deal with the exhibition sector and an announcement is underway very soon.” The film is directed by Hardik Mehta. The source further went on to say, “Though films like Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, Madam Chief Minister among others have released in the cinema halls, Roohi Afzana will be the first Hindi film with an A-list cast to hit the big screen. If the content is as good as Stree, it should bring back the audience, and also put out a statement that the audience is waiting for entertainment at the moment. Many cinema halls are shut at the moment, but with the announcement of Roohi Afzana, they will open their shutters for the audience again.”
Apart from this film, producer Dinesh Vijan is also on to his next one ‘Bhediya’ with Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan. Many upcoming films like MiMi, Sooryavanshi, and more are gearing up for a theatrical release sometime this year after the government has agreed to a 100 percent occupancy.
Just like you guys, we cannot wait to be back at the movies soon!
